Newport Beach

Newport Beach is just South of Huntington Beach and the Santa Ana River. Metered parking is available at both the Newport Pier & Balboa Pier for $1.50 per hour with a maximum of $15.00. There is also metered parking available on the streets of Newport Beach and some free parking is available on Seashore Drive if you can find it. The beach is a clean, white sand beach with the aforementioned 2 piers, some jettys of rocks, and volleyball nets. The Newport Balboa Bike Path runs along this beach. The beach has a very gradual incline out to the surf. You can walk out pretty far into the ocean and still be only waist deep (about 3 feet) in the water. There are plenty of clean restrooms and outdoor showers at these beaches. There are also many lifeguard towers along the beach as well.

Parking near either pier gives you a better selection of eating choices as the restaurants are located nearby. As you move away from either pier down the beach, there are a few places to find something to eat, but not very many. If you want to barbecue at the beach, there are 33 charcoal burning fire pits and several public barbecues located near Balboa Pier. You can visit newportbeachesca.gov for information on the brands of charcoal to use on the beach. Portable BBQs are not allowed on the beach.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach at Newport between the hours of 10 am through 4:30 pm. Before 10 am and after 4:30 pm, you can bring your dog out onto the sand as long as the dog is on a leash no longer than 6 feet and controlled by the owner. Also, you must have dog bags or other implement to "clean up" after your pup.
